Tips & Tricks (5)
- Pat Dry for Optimal Browning 🎯Pat tilapia fillets completely dry with paper towels before seasoning to ensure even coating of spices and prevent moisture that inhibits browning in the oven.
- Layer Lemon Strategic Placement 🍋Place lemon slices under the fillet and thin wheels on top to infuse flavor throughout cooking and create an aromatic steaming effect that keeps the fish moist without oil.
- Toast Spices First for Depth 🌶️Lightly toast paprika and garlic powder in a dry pan for 30 seconds before mixing with salt and pepper to intensify their flavors and create more complex, restaurant-quality seasoning.
- Precise Oven Temperature Matters 🌡️Bake at exactly 400°F for 12-14 minutes depending on fillet thickness; tilapia cooks quickly and becomes dry if overcooked, so use a timer and check for opaque flesh that flakes easily.
- Finish with Acid Boost ✨Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the hot fish immediately after baking to brighten flavors and compensate for the lack of oil, which normally carries and rounds out taste.
